Sedentary (SED, n = 9): No regular exercise or elevated heart rate beyond daily tasks. Active (AC, n = 10): ≥150 min/week aerobic exercise for ≥6 months.
I guess if you walk fast and sustain that walking pace for some time, it could count (HR in Zone 2/3). But there's really no replacement for a couple sessions of any sport a week (running, cycling, swimming, tennis, soccer - whatever gets you on your feet and moving).
Oh sure I run about 10 miles / week, but that's only like 2 hours max running. I still sit most of the day and have tons of 'sitting' problems. I don't know what everyone else's experience with tech work is, but sports is max 4-5 hours / week, and about 20 hours is spent mostly sitting even with a standing desk. Still have the lower back issues that most sitters have.
It's bad that this happened, but this kind of stochastic violence targeting the weatlhy and powerful will only grow more frequent.
The average person has next to no social mobility anymore. People are having fewer and fewer kids. They have depressed wages with no prospect of owning a home (leave-it-to-your-kids 40yr loans are popping up where I live). They have issues covering health care costs and medicine for themselves, their parents, and their children. They have no faith in their system because it continued to erode year by year, while allowing for massive wealth concentration by a select few.
Add to that the inability to organize -- the cluster of cameras and microphones we all carry, the public surveilance equipment (LP readers, gait detectors, traffic sniffers), and the loose-lipped electronic-only discourse -- any serious movement will be nipped in the bud by the ruling system to maintain status quo. Just don't riot and keep working, please, the billionares are starving.
I agree this is a symptom of large systemic issues.
Long gone are the days a bumbling fool could get a well paying job at the local power plant and provide a good life for a wife and three children, with a large home, decent insurance and two cars.
> We are now at the point where Linux emulating Window's entire API space for games with worse drivers is dangerously close on performance with none of the privacy invasion and anti user features.
.. yet. The absolute roll-over I've seen regarding OS level age verification is concerning and disheartening.
It's snowing outside right now and I'm in the middle of a cubicle "bullpen" unable to see the outdoors. I bring up a camera view from home or one of the webcams around town. I hate it.
