Still pretty fun that here banks are still using Java 8, where i work they use java 17 and you can still find work requirements asking for java 7 (mostly in goverment entities)

That's one benefit of using Java actually. You can always find Java developers.

A big issue with java at big companies is that the JVM deployment is managed by sysadmin and devs can't touch it. To bless a java upgrade therefore means getting a defensive bureaucracy to take on risk, however miniscule, and since most Java improvements only help devs (rarely do they enable critical user-demanded features), sysadmins won't budge.

Well 8%-10% saving without measured quality degradation is not nothing, specially now that newer models seem to use more tokens than previous ones.

Also it was tested on reasoning low, i'd have liked to have them tested on higher reasoning levels.

Ask, what is the function of grammar in language? I would argue two major functions. Forcing an encoder to marshal ideas into a coherent structure. Preserving the integrity of that structure when communicated and decoded.

Grammar sounds off? Was the message correctly understood; is there enough left to apply error correction and regenerate the intended message?

For a project that already struggled with the ammount of PRs to review before AI era is not fair to mantainers to keep dealing with things like this.

That's why the real big change in the policy is that new contributors can't take big features or refactors.

This university is very stupid university. Is there anyway to know which university is forcing these kids to spam open source project?

Yeah the entire community telling devs for the last 15 years that open source contributions is how you get a job. Stupid statements get stupid incentives.

It’s not even a rarity / one-off thing. From my personal heuristics and anecdata, this happens with regularity, near semester end times.

Telltale marks: authors with university emails in github profile, often coming in pairs, with no prior interaction with the project, often trying to add features nobody wanted. Not even a CONTRIBUTING.md read-through, usually.

The first example is not just that it was AI-driven, but that he is young.

There was enough info in his repos to find his aliases and social media accounts. He is a preteen and simply doesn't yet have the foundational understanding needed to begin to grasp the problem or the social constructs involved.

That is crazy. What is the actual motivation of that contributor?

The first one was for a $4k bounty. The second one was for a university assignment.

I read Godot Github every other day since a few years ago, and latelly there is a big ammount of obvious AI PRs and the worst thing is that when they are accused of it they directly deny it or attack the mantainers.
