I've been using the Vector API in Java to get some massive speedups for flowfield generation. There's no guessing with that approach - if the hardware supports SIMD, you get it.

Now with Valhala finally getting merged, he can hope the end of preview releases for the Vector API is coming to an end, probably it will take at least until Java 28, though.

The field has been called Artificial Intelligence for what, 60 plus years now. Why is it a problem now?

Because we've spent something like 2 trillion dollars on it, as we hurtle into global climate collapse and WW3.

what has that got to do with what we name the field?

Because its dominated more by businessmen than engineers c.f. early days of IT

Yeah, but they're not going to expand by taking on coal and fossil fuels. The third world is taking on green energy alternatives at a great rate. Not least because it's cheaper and more convenient. These countries can grow without the damage that marked the Western world through the industrial revolution onwards

Apparently, the disclaimer was "put as a joke". Must be an eclectic sense of humor.

Wikipedia suggests hundreds of deaths in various regions around the world - more common in the past, which suggests, I think, more wolves = more deaths.

Yeah, me too. Java always seemed to consider design a lot more than C# which seems to have taken more of a kitchen sink approach to language design. That stuff piles up over time (see c++)
