well they didn't really die on the hill. the NYT headline is still "OpenAI says it has cracked one of math's millennium problems" and the whole article doesn't mention this controversy. Normies don't know what NS is and don't care, they'll just see "wow OpenAI is the best I guess"
Yeah, sales take part in the blame game too, otherwise they would miss on the fun. I don't see many salesperson quit their job to become carpenters, though, so maybe the huge paychecks help. Go figure.
That being said, engineers usually don't complain about being asked for the status of the feature.
What we complain about is being asked why the feature we never committed to deliver is still not there yet.
Even worse if we get cornered into uttering words that are then ret-conned into a commitment.
(A very "efficient" techniques I've heard of if for salesperson to "ask the same question over and over again with enough variations until the engineer and PMs cave." May be helpful if you have already decided to answer "yes" to the feature request / RFP checkbox anyway. Doesn't end well for most people, but sometime a quota gotta be quota-ed....)
That sounds super awesome, but I think college students are always going to find a way to shirk work. For example, in your proposal, plenty of college students would just get another AI to talk to the test administration AI (think Cluely)
Deleted my Instagram account. This should be a bigger international story, but most people outside HN won’t hear about it and won’t understand why this is such a big deal
They probably did limit it somewhat, but to 99.99% lower value accounts. This isn’t the top story of international news because a former president got “hacked”, not Trump, Elon, etc. that literally set national policy via social media post
I definitely found the thesis insightful. The actual content stopped feeling insightful to me in the “What uv drops” section, where cut features were all listed as if they had equal weight, all in the same breathless LLM style
I would be able to absorb your perspective better if it were structured as a bulleted list, with SUMMARY STRINGS IN BOLD for each bullet. And if you had used the word "Crucially" at least once.
