Hello Hacker News,

I've created this assessment to help people that have been asked to work from home due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The assessment is divided into three parts: 1. Workspace, 2. Tools & Systems, and 3. Habits.

Take the assessment here: https://grumo.com/wfhtool

You'll be asked to check "Yes/No" to 52 statements and, based on our answers, you'll receive a Work-From-Home readiness score from 1 to 100 along with a series of recommendations to improve your score.

So far, The average score after 200+ submissions is 65%. Mine was 75% as my habits need a bit of improvement. Specifically, drinking more water and exercising more since all my soccer games got canceled!

To help you implement these recommendations, I’ve also created a PDF checklist that you can download at https://grumo.com/wfhpdf

The full list of recommendations is on my blog at https://grumo.com/work-from-home-guide/

Feedback for improving the assessment is welcome.

I hope this helps someone.

Thanks and good luck working from home!

Miguel

Founder at Grumo.com

P.S: What's your score?

(for the geeks out there, I used Google Sheets and some Javascript magic to process the results)

I'll miss Hipmunk. My career as a video producer started by creating an animation explaining their service back in late 2010. At that time, Alexis Ohanian was their marketing principal and he introduced me to many YC startups in need of similar videos. Soon after, I got to meet him, Adam Goldstein, and Ashton Kuther in person at SxSw 2011. Super nice people. Fond memories!

After watching Kevin Hale's lecture on how investors evaluate startup ideas (http://bit.ly/318hNsE), I was inspired to create a 12 question quiz that any startup could take to find out their growth/success potential based on Kevin's own investing criteria.

You can take it here -> https://mench.com/11966 (Currently it only works via Messenger)

I created it in about 1 hour using the same conversational tech we're building at Mench during this year's YC Startup School.

I thought it would be relevant to this community and a great opportunity to showcase the potential of chatbots for assessing/quizzing/categorizing.

Based on your answers your startup will fall under one of the following 4 categories:

- Great potential! - Moderate potential - Low potential - Poopy potential

I also incorporated Kevin's advice after every answer to help founders get more context as to why your answer may help/hinder your potential for growth.

I'd love to hear any feedback/thoughts!

Many thanks,

P.S: our result for our startup was "moderate potential" to become a $100M business.

This app can help readers easily traverse the 130+ expert profiles showcased in Tim Ferriss' book Tribe Of Mentors, browse their bios, read their answers to Tim's infamous 11 questions, and even check links to their favourite books and gadgets.

Dear Hackers of the world,

Mench is a tool to make great content actionable. This is a link to an example of how can we turn a great post into an actual implementation plan.

I'm a big fan of Tim Urban and his blog WaitButWhy. Last week, he posted an awesome mega-post describing an in-depth framework to help people choose the right career path.

Like all Tim's posts, it's a fun and long read and I highly recommend you read it if you're feeling unsure about what career to choose.

My issue is that just reading Tim's article is not going to be enough. You'll need to actually sit down and take the time to implement every step of his framework.

As Tim knows, humans are the best procrastinators in the world and, without a clear deadline and some motivation, we suck at following through.

My fear is that a zillion people are going to read his article and never take the time to make implement it.

Well, I want to change that! so I went a head and converted Tim's article into a 7-day implementation program on Mench here: https://mench.com/HowToPickACareer

Mench will basically become your accountability partner and motivate you to implement step-by-step Tim's fabulous career picking framework in 7-days.

So, if you're serious about picking a career that actually fulfills you, then you owe it to yourself to do some deep thinking and invest the next 7 days to making a choice that comes from the right place in your heart.

What do you think of this idea of making great content into a tangible action plan?

I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Onwards!

At Grumo we specialize on demo videos for startups. Also if you want to learn how to make them yourself we have an entire animation course at http://grumoschool.com Cheers!

Thanks, funny thing is that the only reason I used my own voice on the Hipmunk video is because I could not afford anyone else.. I even suggested Alexis Ohanian to change the voice. He replied: "Not in a million years!". One of the main reasons Grumo is where is today is thanks to Alexis, he is the living definition of "awesomeness" ;)

You are right, some readers may be offended by me using the boob analogy. But the saying goes "those who care don't matter, and those that matter don't care". Those that know me personally know very well that I have the utmost respect for anyone that suffers from cancer directly or indirectly. In fact, my dear grandmother died form breast cancer when I was a kid and she had both breasts surgically removed. My articles are very much a true unfiltered reflection of who I am. I, like most mammals, specially the male ones, have a special predilection for boobs, I love them! I don't regret to express that admiration to such an amazing part of the female anatomy. If I had a predilection for asses, ears, toes, or dicks I would have chosen those as my top analogy.. but I prefer boobies and something tells me I am not the only one!

Grumo Here! thanks dude!

Thanks for mentioning my interview Frank! If you are in a tight budget going the Keynote route can be very effective as well. I think Frank did an excellent job given the time constraints. I also interviewed him about how he made the video at http://grumomedia.com/grumo-inspired-demo-video-by-crowdsqua...
